Meet Your Host

Meet the person behind Sit Awhile.

Long before Sit Awhile had a name, I was fascinated by people — the lives we build, the impressions others form of us and the judgements they make before they truly know us. I was also struck by how easily the things people say to us, assume about us or quietly place upon us can become part of what we believe about ourselves.

What began as a young adult curiosity became a way of observing the world around me. I saw how quickly we can think we know someone based on the smallest detail — the way they look, the work they do, whether they have a lot of money or very little, whether they are married or raising children alone. We see a label, a circumstance or a single moment in someone’s life and create an entire story around it, without ever knowing what came before.

Karon-Phoenix, founder and host of Sit Awhile.

Welcome

A personal welcome

Come exactly as you are.

My hope for Sit Awhile is simple: that it feels like a place where you can set down the weight of needing to have all the questions and all the answers.

You do not need to arrive feeling ready, confident or certain. There is no need to speak every time or complete everything — there is no clock keeping score. You are welcome to listen, reflect, become curious and take what feels right for you.

I will prepare the journey and walk alongside you as it unfolds. Whatever you discover along the way will always be yours.

Warmly,
Karon-Phoenix

Founder and vision holder

What I want to protect.

As Sit Awhile grows, there are some things I never want it to lose.

I never want money to matter more than purpose, or for the journey to become complicated simply because we can add more. I want there always to be room for you to notice how each season feels within you, and for community to mean standing alongside one another — not simply becoming a number.

Every new idea should earn its place by adding genuine value.

Most of all, I want to keep listening. Sit Awhile was created for people, and as it grows, the people within it should continue to shape what it becomes.

  • Keeping the Four Seasons journey thoughtful and purposeful
  • Protecting a compassionate and curious approach to learning
  • Respecting personal choice, individual pace and your own experience of each season
  • Listening to members and allowing Sit Awhile to evolve with integrity.

A gentle way of guiding

I will guide the journey. You remain at the centre of it.

My approach is rooted in invitation, not instruction. I hope to spark curiosity: to explore ideas together, wonder openly, ask questions and allow your own understanding to take shape.

01

Welcome before teaching

You should feel welcome, respected, and given time to settle in before being asked to explore anything new.

02

Curiosity before conclusions

There is room to wonder, question and look again, without everyone being expected to reach the same understanding.

03

Space before noise

Silence, attentive listening and quiet reflection are meaningful parts of the experience — not empty spaces that need to be filled.

How I holds each space

Different experiences, one consistent philosophy.

Lessons and workshops

I choose relevant topics and carefully shape each lesson and workshop into a structured experience that brings together learning and exploration. You’ll be introduced to ideas and information, with opportunities to think, question, engage and explore what they mean for you.

Open Chair Gatherings

We gather to explore where we are in the journey right now. Members are welcome to bring their questions, share what has come up for them and hear different perspectives. I’ll offer constructive insight where it can help move the conversation forward. You’re always free to speak, listen or simply be present.

Book Nook

For a little while, we are all on the same page — quite literally. We read something together as a community, giving us a shared place to begin and countless directions the conversation might take. We can explore what resonates, what challenges us, what we question and what we each see differently. The book may bring us together, but the conversation can take us far beyond the page.

Questions and mentoring

Questions can start a conversation with the wider community, while mentoring gives us time to explore things together one-to-one. In both settings, I draw on my knowledge and experience to offer insights, fresh perspectives and ideas you may not have considered. Sometimes that means encouraging you to look again or question what you thought you knew. Whether the conversation is shared or personal, what you take from it is yours to keep.

The experience behind the journey

Thoughtful preparation, not performance.

Every Sit Awhile experience is thoughtfully prepared. The planning is intentional, but the experience itself should feel easy and natural — like a conversation or gathering that simply unfolds, even though what sits beneath it has been carefully considered.

I research, select and shape what we explore, thinking about how ideas connect, what might spark curiosity and where there should be time to think, talk, question, take part or simply sit with something.

The structure is there to give the experience depth, not to make you feel the structure.

Something does not have to feel complicated to be powerful. A simple conversation, a shared thought, an exercise or even something you might almost overlook can stay with you, raise a new question or help you see something differently long after the experience ends.

I can prepare what’s there to explore, but I can’t — and shouldn’t — decide what it will awaken in you, where it might lead or how far you choose to follow it.

A clear boundary: Sit Awhile is a reflective learning community for personal exploration. It does not offer therapy, counselling or medical care, and is not a substitute for professional support.

A final note from Karon-Phoenix

The chair is already waiting.

You don’t have to earn your place here. You don’t need to show up with a perfect story or a clear plan. Sit Awhile starts with a simple belief: no matter how well you think you know yourself, there’s always more waiting to be discovered.

Wherever you are beginning from, you are welcome to begin there.
